10.02.2012EFIB 2012- call for Papers announced
EuropaBio and IntetechPira announce call for papers for EFIB 2012 - the European Forum for Industrial Biotechnology and the Biobased economy.

Behind much of the hype in the world's press, there is a widespread acknowledgement that we need to find viable solutions to mitigate climate change and achieve energy independence.

Although still in its infancy, industrial biotechnology has rapidly been gaining strength with bio-based materials, systems and processes representing a real opportunity to lower emissions, reduce energy use and conserve finite natural resources. It is perhaps no surprise that the Europe is looking to industrial biotechnology in order to help meet its ambitious targets to become the world leader in combating climate change.

Europe is well placed to capitalise on this bio revolution and not only play a big part in the move towards a knowledge based economy but also generate significant revenue, jobs and opportunities. In fact today's soaring and fluctuating oil prices combined with rapid biotechnological advances and rising international competition means there has never been a better time for Europe to find new ways of producing biobased alternatives.

Now in its fifth year and following record attendance in 2011, this year's European Forum for Industrial Biotechnology and BioBased Economy takes place on 16-18 October in Dusseldorf, Germany and promises to build upon our enviable reputation as Europe's leading event for this fast evolving sector. Gathering together the foremost representatives of Europe's industrial biotechnology community, EFIB 2012 will bring you an unrivalled calibre of speakers from across policy and business, the most comprehensive exhibition and the networking and business exchange opportunities that one should expect from the sector's market leading event.

The 2012 event will be dedicated to the theme of 'The bio-economy goes global' and production of the conference is now underway. We are working on the format and structure and inviting plenary speakers against the outline agenda below. Demand for speaking requests is anticipated to be high following unprecedented levels of interest in 2011.

We are currently inviting interested parties to submit papers for review by our advisory board to ensure the highest calibre programme ever for 2012. Please make your submission on the following basis:

  • Please send a title and bullet points for your talk along with your name, job title and organisation to by the deadline of Friday 9 March 2012
  • All requests will be sent to the advisory board, where they will be assessed for quality and relevance to this year's agenda objectives
  • Plenary sessions are strictly invitation only and no papers can be submitted for these sessions except at the specific request of the organisers
  • Sponsors and Exhibitors will be given priority for Innovation Track 2 presentations. However, sponsorship and exhibition status does not guarantee acceptance into the conference programme
  • IntertechPira and Europabio reserve the right to make final decisions regarding all presentations
  • NEW for 2012 - for the first time we would also welcome proposals for an entire session. We will need a theme, a chair and 4-8 ideas for potential topics and speakers
