The platform „Polyomics“ combines all relevant genome and postgenome technologies, i.e., genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics. It is dedicated to the genome-based development of new strains for the industrial production of biotechnologically relevant substances.

Today, the rational development of optimized strains for industrial production can be achieved with the modern techniques of genome- and postgenome research. The complete genomes of relevant microorganisms are established with high throughput sequencing methods, and the annotated data is the basis for the reconstruction of metabolic networks in that organism. Site directed mutagenesis allows the re-programming of metabolix fluxes in the direction of the desired products. Subsequently, the productive efficiency of the strains is analyzed with transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic methods. All these techniques require sophisticated bioinformatics tools. In future, the rational development of production strains will be accompanied by approaches of systems biology. An example for such an approach is the development of improved amino acid producing corynebacteria. In this regard, the platform „Polyomics“ can be used for various projects within the research cluster CLIB2021.
