13.09.2019New Chairman of the Board at CLIB
At this year’s general assembly, CLIB members elected Karl-Heinz Maurer (Aachen Proteineers, formerly AB Enzymes) to the Board. He was then elected Chairman of the Board by the board members.

This marks a new phase for CLIB, as the long-time chairman Dr. Thomas Schwarz steps down. Thomas Schwarz headed the cluster six years, taking over as chairman from Achim Marx (Evonik) in 2013. During his tenure, he placed a particular focus on supporting SMEs and start-ups. Internally, he developed the CLIB office into a strong team, running the daily business of the cluster and formulating its strategy. After 10 years on the board, and six as its Chairman, Dr. Thomas Schwarz decided to not stand for re-election. Dennis Herzberg, cluster manager, thanked him for his many years of steering the cluster and said “I would personally like to thank Thomas Schwarz for the great collaboration, the valuable input and inspiring vision for developing our cluster during the last years. We are very happy that he is willing to join our advisory board in its next season so that we can further count on his expertise especially in the fields of technology transfer”.

Dr. Maurer brings the background of a long career in the biotech industry to bear for the cluster’s benefit. He is a biochemist and microbiologist by training and has worked at Henkel, Cognis and AB Enzymes in several positions, ranging from Director Biotechnology, Director Global Marketing, and Head of Regulatory Affairs. Dr. Maurer is retiring from AB Enzymes while co-founding Aachen Proteineers and taking up the responsibility at CLIB – the cluster which he co-founded during his work at Henkel in 2007.

„I feel honoured about the election and hope to live up to the expectations of the CLIB members. I want to thank my predecessor in this role, Thomas Schwarz, for his excellent work. I am glad that all other members of the board are staying in their roles, allowing us to keep the continuity. My intentions for the future are to further strengthen the support for our members and to enhance the coordination of our cluster with national and international counterparts.”, says Karl-Heinz Maurer.

CLIB as a non-profit association has a 12-strong extended board, with three representatives each from the four member groups: industry, SME, academia, and others. The members of the extended board elect the governing board. The current board, listed below, will serve a two-year term.
