07.04.2014CLIB2021 and FISCH sign LOI for strategic collaboration / BIG-C initiative introduced
In frames of the 2nd Economic Conference Flanders- North Rhine-Westphalia on 27th March at the SuperC of RWTH Aachen University, the clusters CLIB2021 and FISCH closed an LOI for a future strategy of cooperation. In the presence of the Flemish minister-president Kris Peeters and the North Rhine-Westphalian Minister for Economic Affairs, Energy and Industry Garrelt Duin the agreement for closer collaboration was signed. Both organizations intend to cooperate amongst others in the training of young researchers for example within the CLIB-Graduate Cluster.

Furthermore the BIG-C (Bio Innovation Growth mega Cluster) concept was introduced at the conference. Ludo Diels and Manfred Kircher presented this initiative of Flanders, the Netherlands and NRW, that - as a regional pacemaker – will help to lift synergies between different Horizon2020 programs and will synchronize activities in the field of bioeconomy in the three regions. Through this, the development of the mega cluster to become a global vanguard for a biobased and resource efficient circular flow economy shall be fostered.

The BIG-C initiative will be presented in more detail at a stakeholder meeting on 19th May in Düsseldorf. At this event, realization paths for innovative, renewable value chains in the mega cluster shall be discussed together with representatives from industry, academia, regional organizations, pilot plants, PPPs and politics.
