23.10.2013Signed in Naples, during IFIB 2013, the MoU between CLIB2021 and Assobiotec, the agreement to promote stable relations between Italy and Germany
Assobiotec, the Italian Association for the development of biotechnology, which is part of Federchimica, and the Cluster Industrielle Biotechnologie (CLIB2021), the German bioindustry cluster located in the region North Rhine-Westphalia, signed a Memorandum of Understanding, an agreement of cooperation to promote and develop relationships and partnerships between their enterprises active in the field of Industrial Biotechnology.

The signing of the Memorandum, in a ceremony held in Naples during the Italian Forum on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioeconomy, at the Egg Castle, was attended by the representatives of the two associations, Alessandro Sidoli, President of Assobiotec, and Manfred Kircher, Chairman of the Advisory Board CLIB2021.

Both partners intend to develop strategy of cooperation, supporting their organisations in identifying mutual fields of interest in the biotechnology area, in building bilateral links between their members to prepare joint projects in Academic Science & Education, industrial R&D and commercial partnering.

Assobiotec and Clib2021 will give support in applying for private and public means from industry as well as Italian, German or European funding programs in order to finance the projects and will support short- and longterm exchange of students, graduates and scientists.

“Cooperation with clusters around the world – said Alessandro Sidoli, President of Assobiotec - is essential to our industry. We are excited about our formalized relationship with Clib2021, which will enable our member organizations to connect more directly with a significant biotech region. With this initiative we aim to facilitate collaboration in research and business between Italy and one of the regions with the highest industrial biotech growth in Europe."

Manfred Kircher: “CLIB2021 wants to cooperate with Assobiotec in order to initiate German-Italian partnering projects in research, development and production of sustainable chemicals and energy carriers.”

Assobiotec is the Italian Association for the Development of Biotechnology, set up within the Italian Federation of the Chemical Industry (Federchimica), representing more than 140 companies and science & technology parks operating in Italy and involved in various biotech-related fields – pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, agro-food, fine chemicals, environment, processing industry and equipment. They include emerging biotech companies and small to medium enterprises, as well as the biotech divisions of large organisations. Assobiotec is co-founder member of EuropaBio, the European Association for Bioindustries.

CLIB2021 is an "Open Innovation Cluster" for bioeconomy with focus on industrial biotechnology. Our 90 cluster members recruit from academia, finance, industry, and SME, with an international share of about 35%. The CLIB Graduate Cluster ensures qualification of young scientists in key areas of industrial biotechnology. The same scientific areas are also addressed by our Technology Cluster. We help our members and partners to network along bioeconomy value chains in the chemicals and energy markets. Identification and evaluation of unusual value chains within the bioeconomy is a major task of our cluster. Within the European Union as well as in its international network our cluster serves as initiator, coordinator, and multiplicator to push the bioeconomy.
